    About This Data
    The price is total residential revenue divided by kilowatt-hours sold, so it includes delivery charges and taxes billed by the utility. EIA collects it from utilities each month and publishes it about two months later.

    EIA phones a sample of about 1,000 stations every Monday morning and reports the average pump price, taxes included. Regular grade covers all formulations, including the reformulated blends required in some cities.

    The five regions are the Petroleum Administration for Defense Districts: East Coast, Midwest, Gulf Coast, Rocky Mountain and West Coast. State fuel taxes, required fuel blends and distance from refineries set the differences between them.
