Every number comes from an official primary source and shows the latest vintage that source has published. Agencies revise past figures as more complete data arrives, so a number you saw last month may differ from the same period today. The period and the source sit beside each chart for that reason.

Where a measure is defined differently from place to place, such as homelessness counts across countries, the definition is shown next to the chart. Compare with care.

The FBI warns against comparing states or cities by crime rate, because reporting practices, urbanisation, and demographics differ too much for such lists to be fair. We show trends and national context instead.

Nothing on this site is investment, trading, tax, legal, or policy advice. The explanations describe what a figure measures and how it moved; they do not tell you what to do about it.

Agencies publish on schedules and sometimes fall behind or take a page offline. When a source does not answer, the chart says so. We do not fill the gap with a stale or invented number.

The Data Bulletin is built and maintained by Micah McCaul, a data analyst, as an independent project. It has no advertising, sponsorships, affiliate links, donors, or political affiliation. Nobody pays for a chart to appear, and nothing publishes without a person reading it first.
